How to Work a Lift Exhibition: A Visitor's Guide
By Sujit Katariya, ElevatorPlus · Published 2 September 2026 · Last updated 2 September 2026 · ~7 min read
In short: Most people leave a lift exhibition with a bag of brochures and nothing decided. We stand on the other side of the stand and watch it happen. Here is how to work a show properly: one problem, eight stands, booked time, your hardest operational question in your pocket, and a follow-up plan for the fortnight after.
Key takeaways
- Decide the one problem you want solved before you book the ticket. "Having a look round" costs you three days and returns a tote bag.
- Read the exhibitor list and pick eight stands. Forty is not a plan, it is a corridor walk.
- The question that separates a real product from a demo: ask to see one specific unit's service history against a statutory date, on live data, not a scripted walkthrough.
- The most useful conversations at a lift show are with other contractors, not with vendors. They have no reason to sell you anything.
- ISEE Delhi 2026 runs 3 to 5 December at Yashobhoomi IICC, Dwarka, New Delhi, organised by ISEEVENTUS. ElevatorPlus is at Booth 1 H16. Book time rather than queueing.
What this guide covers: Deciding your one problem · Cutting the list to eight · Questions that break a demo · Talking to other contractors · Booking stand time · Which shows are actually on · The fortnight afterwards · FAQs
What should you decide before you leave home?
One problem. Written down, in a sentence, before you buy the flight.
Not "look at software". Something like: I lose two working days a month chasing which AMCs are up for renewal, and I want to know how firms my size stopped doing that.
We watch several hundred people pass a stand over three days, and what separates the ones who get value from the ones who do not has little to do with how much they know. It is whether they arrived with a question or an intention to browse. Browsers collect literature. Askers get answers, because a specific question gives the person on the stand something to work with, and gives you a way to tell a good answer from a fluent one.
Three days disappear faster than anyone expects. Yashobhoomi is a large building.
How do you cut forty stands down to eight?
Read the exhibitor list. Most people never do.
Go through it a week before, mark everyone who touches your one problem, then be ruthless. Eight stands is a realistic day-one target and you will spend real time at perhaps four. Walk past the rest.
Sort the eight into two groups. Serious evaluations get a booked slot and thirty minutes. Curiosity gets ten minutes and no diary entry. Do the serious ones on the first morning, while you are fresh and the stands are not yet three deep.
One practical warning for ISEE specifically: there is no public floor plan or exhibitor directory published. Get stand numbers from the organiser directly or from the show app once it is live, and do not plan your route from a third-party listing.
What questions separate a real product from a demo?
Any decent stand can run a polished walkthrough. That only tells you the software has a demo environment, which every product on the floor has. Break the script instead.
| What you get by default | Ask this instead | What a good answer looks like |
|---|---|---|
| A scripted feature tour on clean sample data | "Open one real lift and show me its full service history against its next statutory date." | They open a unit, and the history, the parts and the certificate expiry are all on one screen without switching modules. |
| "Yes, it handles multi-site clients." | "One client, eleven buildings, different renewal months. Show me." | They show it, including what happens when one building renews and ten do not. |
| "Our technicians love the app." | "What happens in a basement machine room with no signal?" | A straight answer about offline capture and sync, including what breaks. |
| "You get full reporting." | "Show me margin per unit, not revenue per contract." | Either they show it, or they say the product does not do that. Both are useful. |
| "We work with companies like yours." | "Name one I can ring after the show." | A name, and a willingness to make the introduction. |
The last one is the most revealing question on the list, and the cheapest to ask.

Why are the best conversations not with vendors?
Because we are selling and they are not.
The people worth finding are the other contractors: the man running a few hundred units on nine technicians, the woman whose firm just went through the compliance change you are dreading. They have no commercial interest in your decision, they have already made the mistake you are about to make, and they will usually tell you about it in detail if asked properly.
Asking properly means being specific and going first. Not "how's business". Try: our renewal tracking has fallen apart, what did you do at our size? You have given them a real question and admitted a real weakness, which is the entry fee for a real answer.
Where these conversations happen: the coffee queue, the seating area at the back, the seminar rooms after a session ends, the shuttle bus. Not on the aisles, where everyone is walking somewhere.
How do you book stand time instead of queueing?
Email the exhibitor two or three weeks out. Say who you are, how many lifts you run, and the one problem. Ask for a specific slot.
What you get is not the same product. A booked slot is a working session with somebody who has read your context. A walk-up on day two is a five-minute overview while two people wait behind you.
Nearly nobody does this, which is why it works so well.
Same logic for accommodation: book early when a major show is on. Dwarka fills up when Yashobhoomi has a big event, and the same is true of Gandhinagar during the Expo.

Which shows are actually on?
The calendar in this industry moves more than people expect, so check before you commit travel money.
| Show | Dates | Venue |
|---|---|---|
| ISEE Delhi 2026 (ISEEVENTUS) | 3 to 5 December 2026 | Yashobhoomi IICC, Dwarka, New Delhi. ElevatorPlus at Booth 1H16. |
| Elevator Escalator Expo Gandhinagar | 17 to 19 March 2027 | Mahatma Mandir, Gandhinagar |
| The Elevator Show Dubai | 23 to 25 March 2027 | Dubai World Trade Centre, Trade Centre Arena |
| GLE Expo Africa | No announced next edition | Nothing to book against at present |
Two notes on that table. The Elevator Show Dubai moved: it was previously in a September 2026 slot and a different hall, and when we last checked, the show's own homepage was still displaying the superseded dates. Use the visitor information pages rather than the front page.
And GLE Expo Africa: we are not saying it was postponed or cancelled, because no organiser has said so. What we can say is that the organiser's Africa page is offline and Virgo Communications' published schedule lists no African event, so directory listings carrying 2025 or 2026 dates appear to be unmaintained.
What do you do in the two weeks afterwards?
This is where the value is either captured or thrown away, and it is the part almost everybody skips.
Day one back: write up your notes while you can still read your own handwriting. One paragraph per useful conversation, and what you agreed to do next.
Within three days: send the follow-up emails yourself, referencing something specific, because a generic follow-up gets treated like one.
Within two weeks: get the shortlisted vendors onto a call with your operations person in the room, not just you. Ring the contractor whose name you were given. Make one decision, even a small one.
If nothing has happened fourteen days after a show, nothing is going to happen. The notes go in a drawer and next year you go again and browse.
Frequently asked questions
1. When and where is ISEE Delhi 2026?
3 to 5 December 2026 at Yashobhoomi IICC, Dwarka, New Delhi, organised by ISEEVENTUS. ElevatorPlus is at Booth 1H16.
2. Where can I find the ISEE floor plan and exhibitor list?
ISEE does not publish a public floor plan or exhibitor directory. Get stand numbers from the organiser or the official show app.
3. How many stands should I plan to visit in a day?
Eight on the list, four properly. More than that and you are collecting brochures.
4. What is the single best question to ask a software vendor on a stand?
Ask to see one real lift's service history against its next statutory date, on live data. A demo environment cannot fake a unit-level history convincingly.
5. Are the seminars worth attending?
Sometimes for the content, almost always for the ten minutes afterwards when you can catch the speaker and the people who chose that session.
6. Which other lift shows are coming up?
Elevator Escalator Expo Gandhinagar, 17 to 19 March 2027 at Mahatma Mandir, and The Elevator Show Dubai, 23 to 25 March 2027 at the Dubai World Trade Centre, Trade Centre Arena.
7. Is GLE Expo Africa running in 2026?
There is no announced next edition. The organiser's Africa page is offline and Virgo Communications' published schedule lists no African event. We are not calling it cancelled, because nobody official has.
8. Do I need to be shopping to make a show worthwhile?
No, but you need one question. A show answers questions well and answers vague curiosity badly.

A lift exhibition is three days of the industry standing in one building. That is rare and worth the airfare, and it is usually wasted by people who arrive without a question.
Pick the one problem. Cut the list to eight. Book the slots. Talk to other contractors more than to vendors. Then do the fortnight of work afterwards that turns a trip into a decision.
